Freedom Church buys the Odeon cinema
The Odeon cinema building had been a St Helier landmark for more than half a century when Freedom Church bought it for £1m. The church had plans to re-generate it for community use, where it would be run under the name Freedom Centre. The listed cinema had narrowly escaped being demolished to make room for development when, the previous year, the Environment Minister had declared it a landmark building and placed it under protection so that it could form part of the North of St Helier Masterplan.
