Plans revealed for bridge to France

Plans for a 16-mile bridge linking Jersey to France, which would also carry fibre optic cables and fuel pipes, as well as providing a platform for wind turbines were revealed in The Times on 28 April 2008. Commuters, which would pay a £25 toll to use the bridge, could move to France, the paper suggested, and benefit from lower house prices. The £1bn crossing, if it was ever built, would make landfall in Jersey at Seymour Tower.

The BBC reported that the man behind the bridge idea, former chair of Jersey’s Chamber of Commerce, Peter Walsh, had written to French president Nicolas Sarkozy, who had sent a positive letter in response.
