Journalist George William de Carteret dies
George William de Carteret was both secretary of the Jersey Farmers’ Union, and a prolific journalist. Much of his work was published in the Norman language in Les Chroniques de Jersey under the name Le Caouain (or, the owl). The character that he created for himself, which he used when reporting on local politics, supposedly lived above the newspaper printworks with his wife, Marie Hibou (hibou being French for owl).
