St Brelade actor William Tabb is born
William George Tabb has the distinction of being one of the two last clergymen to sit in the Chamber of the States of Jersey, with his tenure only coming to an end when the positions were abolished. However, this seems unlikely to have bothered him as he had plenty else to occupy his time as the rector of St Brelade.
Tabb spent the First World War in the Navy and, afterwards, returned to Jersey before being sent to Canada, where he was ordained in Ottawa and, later, married his wife, Edith. After a stint in England, he returned to Jersey to work in Trinity and remained on the island throughout the occupation.
He was appointed rector of St Brelade in 1946 and served in that role for the next quarter of a century, until his death in 1971.
